“Cu avi lingua passa u mari.” He who has a tongue can cross the sea.

by Aaroncino

In Sicily, that saying means a story can travel farther than a ship.

Le Casematte proves it.

Their Faro comes from the northeastern corner of Sicily near Messina, a place many wine drinkers have never explored, including serious collectors of Italian wine.

That is part of what makes this bottle so compelling.

Faro nearly disappeared. The vineyards sit on steep hills overlooking the sea, shaped by wind, heat, and salt air. Farming here is difficult. Believing in Faro at all requires conviction.

Le Casematte believed anyway.

The result is a wine that feels unmistakably Sicilian, but not in the way people expect. This is not a heavy or overripe red. It is lifted, savory, and alive with sour cherry, wild herbs, volcanic earth, citrus peel, and smoke.

A wine shaped as much by the Mediterranean as by the vineyard itself.

And maybe that is the beauty of Faro.

It does not taste international.

It tastes like somewhere.

This bottle crossed the sea carrying that message.
